The largest dam in the world is being built on the Yangtze River. It will be a major feat of engineering and has radically altered the lives of millions of Chinese. For many travelers, myself included, the highlight of the Yangtze River Cruise is the trip in smaller boats (skiffs) up the Daning River with its' Three Little Gorges and the Shennong Stream - both have high cliffs, clear stream water and abundant wild life (if you are lucky, you will see wild monkeys or even migrating sturgeon!). The dam will raise the water level of the Yangtze so that these areas  will in effect become a lake.
